I hope everyone takes a few minutes today to remember what Memorial Day is really all about… it is a three-day weekend, a day off work, and the unofficial start of summer, but it is also a chance for us to remember and honor all the service men and women who have died serving our country. Rhonda over at "because mom said so..." posted a great read that is on The Memorial Day Foundation's official site. its the story about how memorial day came about....go check it out...

Memorial Day is also a day to remember all veterans and current active duty military members and their families. Also to remember all those policemen/women, firefighters, emergency response personnel, doctors, nurses, etc. I went to a Memorial Day ceremony in Columbia yesterday that was fabulous. The speaker there put a different perspective on Memorial Day and that was the view of the families of service members that have paid the ultimate price. He was an airforce brat and he talked about how his Dad had to go away from time to time on his "special jobs". About how emotional it was for his family when his Dad returned home. But what really hit home was when he talked about those family members of the service members that didn't make it back alive. A very emotional moment for most. Sometimes we get caught up in the busyness of our own lives and we forget about our neighbors. I'm thankful that as a country we reflect on these days (Memorial and Vetrans) so we can think about others.
