another spur of the moment trip...

so, while driving home from FL, matt and i were dreaming (again...) of winning the lotto. matt says he wants to buy one of those huge bus camper things and travel! woo hoo, i am game! and i have made it very clear that he will have to do all the driving, im not sure i could handle something that big!

we just need to win the lotto now!

and then he said that, when we win the lotto, we should take a summer, and follow the cardinals around to each stadium in our bus camper thingy...what fun!...

that got me thinking...the cardinals were going to be in kansas city the up coming weekend. KC is only about 3 1/2 hours away from us, i am off, matt is off....lets go to KC and catch a game! so on tuesday, matt and i decided we would drive to KC on sat morning when i got off work, and go to the 6PM baseball game. mind you, this is tuesday!

friday, while i was at work, matt got on priceline.com and was checking out hotels....the price he put in was 45$...and it was accepted! with hotel, tax, and jazz, our total bill was 60.05$. what hotel did priceline put us in you might be wondering....motel 6? super 8?
NOPE....THE SHERATON!!!! 3 stars! (the most in KC)... king size bed, beautiful linens on the bed, a FLAT SCREEN TV(which we dont even have at home!)! and the hotel web site says that their room rates START at 154.00$!!! remember, we got it for 60.05$ total~~~ yipee! thank you priceline.com!

i get home sat AM, and we hit the road by 9AM...i sleep in the car and matt drives us to KC(thank you hunky husband). at a little before 1, we get to the hotel, check in, and are VERY pleased!......
not only is the hotel SSSAAAAAWWWWWEEEEEEEEETTTTTT but....
the best part is that the hotel is RIGHT across the street from the royals stadium! so we walked to and from the game!
heres a pic of our room, the picture doesnt do it justice, but i promise you....it was no super 8!:-)

heres the view from our 5th floor room...see, theres the royals stadium!

RIGHT THERE!

and behind it is the chiefs stadium for all you football fans! all we had to do is walk across the parking lot, across the overpass, and down the grassy hill, and we were there! so we didnt have to worry about driving back to the hotel after a long night at the ballpark, with a few adult beverages in our bodies!;-)

matts brother, wife, and daughter (steve, nikki, and An Na) happened to be in KC for the day as well! they were buying a van...so, after checking in, showering, and running to target to get matt a RED shirt!(he FORGOT his cardinals jersey!!!!), we were on our way to meet them for dinner.
its now 4pm, game time is 6pm, we just sat down for dinner....and we still have NO tickets!!! i am getting a little "antsy"...(i am glad matts not telling you the story, he might have used another word in there!).
matt makes a few phone calls to some people that were selling tickets on craigslist...one guy sold his already, another said he had some, just call him when we get to the stadium, and then matt called the ticket office, "sold out"! aggg! not even standing room only...now i really get into a panic!
we leave dinner(and it was y-u-m-m-y! BBQ), head back to the hotel, and walk towards the stadium...its now 5:15ish....the first "nice man with tickets" (aka: scalper wanting our arms and legs) we came across had 24$ tickets and wanted 100$ EACH for them!
what?!?! you crazy.... we kept walking...
we get down to the main gait (i am in panic mode right now...we came all this way, its 1/2 before game time and we have no tickets) and this guy walks out of the croud towards us...with a huge grin on his face...then i(we) recognize him, his name is dave and matt went to high school with him! what are those chances? anyway, dave is with his family that also came out to KC for the game. we start talking about our need for tickets dilemma and dave says, "well, we have one extra ticket you can have"..
what? did we hear you right? an extra ticket we can HAVE! and its in section 125, which face value is 32$! no nose bleeds for (at least one of) us!
now its almost 6...game time 6:10...we have one ticket...
matt holds his one finger up (the universal sign for "we need one ticket!")
then he hears one guy say to his friend "see, he needs just one ticket"
matt: "you have an extra ticket?"
nice cardinal fan:"yes, just one though"
"thats all i need. how much you want for it?"
by now, he had pulled it out...and it was a 32$ ticket.
uummmmm..... nice cardinal fan says....
me:"come on, from one cardinal fan to another!"
nice guy with extra ticket: "you guys are cardinal fans?"
me: "yes! see our RED shirts!!!!"
nice guy: "give me 15$"
shut up! 15$ for a 32$ ticket? you mean you dont want our arm and leg like that other "scalper"?
matt picks his jaw up off the ground and hands the nice guy with the extra ticket a 20$ and says "how about i give you 20$?"
"ok! sold!"

and now we have TWO tickets! for a total of 20$!!!!! we look and both tickets are in the SAME SECTION! 125!!!! one is in row BB and the other is in HH, so we are literally 5 rows apart!
we couldnt have lucked out any better! GREAT hotel for cheap, GREAT tickets for cheap! and in the same section!!!!!

how does that happen!

there was an empty seat in my row( BB, the closer one!) so the nice cardinal fans in the row all shifted one seat, so matt got to come and sit with me for the game!

heres a self portrait of us....we do this all the time, and are pretty good at it i might add!

a view of the field and the right side of the stadium...see how close we were!!
the nice cardinal lady to my right took this for us...after the game....after our WIN!
we had a blast! such a great weekend, everything worked out superb!i still cant believe how everything worked out so well....

Matt and Jenn,

I enjoyed reading about your success in KC and loved hearing that you found Cardinal fans with good souls.

You can score tickets like that for any game and concerts too. I do it all the time.

You boldness counts and you will save tons of money in the future.

I wrote the book on the subject and would be more than happy to send you a free copy. Shoot me an email and I will ship it right away. Find me at www.thepoormansticket.com

By the way, I hope you win the lottery!
