the lake cont....once more

after the LATE night/EARLY morning, we slept until noon! no mr construction to wake us today!
saturday we went dog days to eat lunch. this was another cool lake front restaurant that had great food.

then we headed to ha ha tonka state park to do some hiking on the MANY trails, to see the castle ruins, natural bridge, and natural spring....the views were SPECTACULAR!

up on the bluff, looking down at the river made by the natural spring

the castle ruins...construction began in 1905, only to be halted a year later due to the untimely death of the man building the castle, robert snyder. his sons finished building their fathers dream and eventually leased it for use as a hotel. in 1942 fire gutted the entire interior when sparks from a chimney ignited the roof. today, only these ruins remain.
the view down from the mansion, high on a bluff overlooking ha ha tonka spring and the lake.
can you imagine how massive and beautiful this was back in the day?!?!?!

the natural bridge, it is 70 feet wide, spans 60 feet, and is more that 100 feet high...

a view of the mansion from another trail
the ha ha tonka spring, missouris 12 largest spring, discharges about 58 million gallons of water a day! the water is 58 degrees year round. clear, blue, beautiful.
after spending a few hours hiking, we headed back to the condo for some R&R...(aka, a nap!). then decided to head to the horney toad for the fireworks. although it was raining, i kept my fingers crossed that they would still have them.

we got there, it was POURING buckets (i think it was ike coming through), so no fireworks....but there was a band playing head east, so we stayed and listened to them. they were rocking! a classic rock band, all with long hair and swinging it all around!

after the band was done, we headed back to our new fave spot....peckers! with the dueling pianos and our friend dustin, the bartender! we again closed down the bar. right after they announced "last call", two rain soaked men ran into the bar looking for the bathroom...it was two members of head east! (the two on the right of the picture above). we talked to them for a little bit and got their autographs! but dang it, mrs camera (aka, me!)...didnt even think to bust out my camera for a photo op! rats!

the night before (friday night), while at peckers, another two band members of head east (2nd and 3rd from right) were in the bar...but at the time, we didnt know who they were, so no pics or autographs that night either.:-(

after we closed down the bar...we headed back to the condo, WITHOUT friendly bar workers in tow this time, watched tv until late, and called it a night.

we woke up sunday, watched some of the football game, then headed to the outlet mall. walked and window shopped for a while...then started to head home...so sad that our weekend was over, but boy did we have a fun filled weekend (even WITHOUT a boat or a bike!)

on our way home, we stopped at our FAVE dinner spot, SHOW-ME'S for some wings! yum yum. a perfect way to close a perfect weekend spent just enjoying each other!
