at the hotel, they were selling "niagara majestic tours" for the "small" price of 80$ a person! what?!?!?

we really didnt want to spend 160$ for a tour, but i took the brochure to look at what this tour would be showing us. just to see if a 5 course meal in tahiti was included (no dice on dinner).
as we were walking around the state park, seeing things, and exploring on day 1,(FOR FREE I MIGHT ADD) i noticed a lot of the tour stops (the state park, goat island, 3 sister island, prospect point, terrapin point, luna island, maid of the mist, cave of the winds....you get the idea) were things matt and i were doing or could do on our own for much cheaper....
so thats exactly what we did...the "majestic tour" without the tour price and tour time restrictions! we saw all the "wondrous attractions", at our own speed, on our own time, and much was for free!

on day 1 we did a lot of exploring on our own...just walking around, seeing things, reading all the little signs that had the historical information on them, and winging it. while walking the state park, i had noticed that we could purchase a "discovery pass".
this was a ticket to "enjoy 5 great attractions and save 30%" because you bought the package deal!
saaweeeet! save some money while doing the things we want, count us in!
so this is what we did on day 2. we walked down to the state park and bought discovery passes. i was totally excited! the first thing we did was to go to the visitors center, collect some brochures, look at the history they had in pictures and stories, and watch a film in the adventure theatre on the "niagara: legends of adventure"...this film i enjoyed (not sure if matt was as entertained as i was).
it explained about the falls way back before the white man, when it was just the indians and their belief in the spirits of the falls, it told us about when the settlers came, and people were walking on tight ropes over the falls, it told the story about the first person to go over the falls...a school teacher and her cat, in a barrel (i think shes nuts!), and it told about a little 7 year old boy that was on a little boat with 2 other people upriver, the boat had engine trouble, and to make a long story short, the little boy ended up going over the falls in just a life vest...and lived! i thought the movie was both entertaining and informative.
then we decided to go to the cave of the winds! i highly recommend this! and i also highly recommend wearing the yellow rain poncho and oh-so-stylish sandals they provide to you! because you DO GET WET! you are right down next to the bridal falls, you walk on wooden walkways and stop on each of 4 decks along the way...making your way to the "hurricane deck". here, you are 20 feet away from the bridal falls....OH MY GOSH! i actually didnt stay on that deck too long...it was really wet (imagine that) and REALLY windy! i was afraid of being blown away by the force of the falls!
since we were wet, we decided our next adventure from our pass would be the "maid of the mist".
but first, we went up to the observation tower for a look at the falls from high above! what a cool and different view from up there!
again, i highly recommend this attraction and the blue rain poncho they provide to you! we boarded the little boat and headed straight towards the horseshoe falls....getting so close that we were getting sprayed with the mist from the falls...being thankful for the little blue poncho!

these two attractions were fantastic. a definite must do if you ever get up that way!
after we got off the boat, we kept our garb on, and ventured up close and personal to the american falls!
after all this excitement (and walking on day 1 and day 2), we decided to board the niagara scenic trolley and ride around the state park (rather than walk around it again!). it was cool because there was a little tour guide on the trolley that would tell us neat tid-bits about things in the park (each different island, the different points, ect.). we actually stayed on the trolley and made a few "hot laps" around the park...
by now it was evening, so we went back and took a short nap at the hotel. while i was napping, matt was researching our dinner plans! he found a sports bar about 10 minutes away from our hotel, that had direct TV and the MLB ticket...so thats how we decided where we were going to eat...went there, had good food, fun atmosphere, AND GOT TO WATCH THE CARDINAL GAME!

after dinner, we walked back down to the falls, and marveled at them at night...they illuminate them for several hours each night, with the lights changing colors every few minutes@ i could have stayed there forever!
i couldnt get a good picture of the falls at night. too far away and too dark for my little point and shoot...so heres what i could muster...mist, lit up with color! but....i could get better pics from the canadian side...stay tuned!

I can't believe the SIZE of that burger!! How in the world did he eat that, UGH!
Cool pictures, I really like the night ones of the falls and how they change color.. very smart of them.
